Implementation Guidelines for the Scholarship for Outstanding Extracurricular Performance

Article 1     Purpose:

To encourage students of National Taiwan Ocean University to balance academic and group activities, actively participate in clubs, school, and community services, and cultivate a life perspective that is optimistic, sociable, and service-oriented, these Guidelines are established.

Article 2     Eligibility:

1.    Applicants for this scholarship, whether individuals or groups, must be members of student clubs, autonomous organizations, or volunteer groups supervised by the University.

2.    Awards related to sports competitions should apply separately for the University's Scholarship for Outstanding Athletic Achievement.

3.    Applicants for this scholarship, whether individuals or groups, may only apply once per academic year based on one competition result.

Article 3     Award Categories:

1.    Outstanding Performance Scholarship: Awarded to individuals or groups who achieve top six positions (individual or cumulative team results; only one category can be applied for) in national competitions organized or commissioned by the government during that academic year. For team competitions with twelve or more teams, awards are given up to the sixth position, and for six to eleven teams, up to the fourth position. For five or fewer teams, up to the third position. The same applies to individuals.

2.    Service Excellence Scholarship: Divided into group and individual categories.

(1)   Group: Awarded to groups that have performed ten or more community or campus service activities in that academic year, with outstanding performance.

(2)   Individual: Applicants must have an academic average of 75 or above and a conduct score of 80 or above in the previous semester, and must still be enrolled at the University.

(3)   If group service excellence category has already been applied, a maximum of two members from that group may apply for the individual service excellence category. However, the individual's application content must not overlap with the group’s activities.

Article 4     Award Amount: The scholarship is awarded once per academic year. The group award ranges from NT$4,000 to NT$12,000, and the individual award from NT$1,000 to NT$6,000.

Article 5     Application Process:

1.    Eligible applicants as per Article 2 should apply in early May each year as per the announcement dates of the Student Affairs Office, Division of Extracurricular Activities. The following documents are required:

(1)   For Outstanding Performance Scholarship: Application form and proof of competition results.

(2)   For Service Excellence Scholarship:

a.     Group: Application form, service history sheet, and relevant documents proving excellent service.

b.    Individual: Application form, service history sheet, relevant documents proving excellent service, a copy of the Holistic Educations Passport, and the original transcript of the previous semester.

2.    The dates of outstanding performance or excellent service activities mentioned in the application documents should be within one year prior to the announcement date of that academic year.

Article 6     The scholarship applications will be initially reviewed by the student group guidance units, compiled by the Division of Extracurricular Activities, and then evaluated by the Scholarship Committee for Outstanding Extracurricular Performance. The committee will be convened by the Dean of Student Affairs and include the secretary and heads of various divisions of the Student Affairs Office.

Article 7     The necessary funds for this scholarship will be provided by the University's "Student Funds and Grants - Scholarship for Outstanding Extracurricular Performance."

Article 8     These Guidelines shall be implemented after approval by the meeting of the Student Affairs Office.

Note:  These guidelines are formulated in Chinese. In case of any discrepancies between the English and Chinese versions, the Chinese version shall prevail.
